Patient admissions to the Sikhi Mission House Elderly Care Centre, operated by the Vishaka Foundation and affiliated with Sri Buwanekaba Viharaya, Govindupura, officially commenced on 21 April 2026. The centre was inaugurated on 17 February 2026, fulfilling the long-cherished dream of 76-year-old Mother. Vishaka.

The initial medical assessment of newly admitted residents was conducted under the leadership of the Medical Superintendent of Siyambalanduwa Base Hospital. Psychological counselling services were provided by the Psychological Counselling Unit of the Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretariat, while the registration process was carried out with the support of the Head of Social Services of the Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretariat

The Elderly Care Centre has been established to provide comprehensive care and accommodation for destitute, abandoned, bedridden, and chronically ill women and men, as well as Buddhist monks and nuns who have no one to care for them.

During the initial phase, 20 residents were admitted. Their care is currently provided by a dedicated team of four qualified nursing officers.

Although the facility has the capacity to accommodate and care for 60 residential patients, admissions have been temporarily limited due to the substantial daily operational costs required to maintain the centre. We remain hopeful that, with increased public support and donations, admissions can be expanded in the near future.
